The Marbella Wines By The Glass
Our list of wines by the
glass offers you a well rounded selection of tasty
international flavors. Some of our guests enjoy a pitcher of
Sangria while they pick out a glass or bottle of wine to enjoy
with their meal. When people think of Spain, visions of Pablo
Picasso paintings, bullfights, Paella and Sangria come to
mind. Ernest Hemingway, the famous author considered Spain one
of his favorite countries and he acquired quite a reputation
for his love of Spanish wines.

Rioja is a region in Spain with a long, glorious
vinicultural history.
Rioja wine, especially the
red, has been well known for centuries. The Rioja vineyards
were planted even before the traditional bringers of wine, the
expanding Romans, moved into the area. Wine and vineyards have
always held a special place in Spaniards' hearts. Spain has
more acreage planted than any other country.
Red Rioja
The "red Rioja" is most well known style of Rioja. Classic,
bold, these wines taste mostly of their tempranillo roots and
have a bright, fresh flavor to them. This goes extremely well
with steak and other hearty meats.
Rosé Rioja
The rosé version of Rioja is also fresh and strong, but has a
lighter weight to it. They are predominantly Garnacha grapes,
and are bright pink.
White Rioja (Rioja Blanca)
More greenish-yellow than white, Rioja Blanca has a light,
fine aroma and flavor. These wines are made primarily with the
Viura grape.
Rioja Grapes:
There are seven types of
grapes used in making Rioja. Four are used for the red
variety, which makes up 80% of all production. Three are used
for the white variety, which is another 10%. The final 10% is
rosé.
The Red Grapes:
-
Tempranillo
-
Garnacha
-
Graciano
-
Mazuelo
The White Grapes:
-
Viura
-
Malvasia
-
Garnacha Blanca.
Rioja wines can come
from three subregions:
Anything from the Rioja
region in general is labeled 'Rioja Calificada'. Rioja is the
only Spanish wine able to use the term Calificada on its
label. Rioja is also labeled for quality depending on the type
of aging the wine has gone through.
Typical aging marks
include:
-
Vino de Crianza - one year
in a cask, at least three years old.
-
Reserva - three years old,
at least one in oak.
-
Gran Reserva - two years
in oak plus three in the bottle.

Try the Beringer Napa Valley Chardonnay with our
seafood!
Offered by the bottle at
Marbella is the Beringer Napa Valley Chardonnay. This delicious California
Chardonnay is a blend of fruit from a handful of estate
vineyards that are located in the heart of the Napa
Valley. Scattered from Yountville south into the cooler
Los Carneros AVA (American Viticultural Area), each
vineyard produces fruit with individual and unique
aroma, flavor and structural attributes that reflect
their varying soils and microclimates.
Winemakers Ed Sbragia and
Laurie Hook chose to use 42 percent Yountville Vineyard
grapes because it typically has a bigger personality,
providing fruit that is rich and opulent with a honeyed
butter/citrus quality. Stanly Ranch in Carneros provided
23 percent of the blend because Ed and Laurie wanted to
add its balancing acidity, apple and lemon-lime flavors.
Gamble Ranch in Yountville and Hudson Ranch closer to
Napa provide additional complexity to the blend.
Winemaster Comments:
"The Chardonnay grapes from our Napa Valley vineyards in
2000 had great, uniform maturities. As the individual
lots were coming into the winery, Ed and I were thrilled
with the wonderful flavors we tasted. Even at that early
stage, we were thinking about how well the various lots
would come together to create a delicious, complex
layered wine. The 2000 Napa Valley Chardonnay combines
the best characteristics of our Napa Valley vineyards
into a classic, rich Chardonnay with a lovely mid-palate
reminiscent of crème brûlée and lemon curd.
Mouth-filling citrus, apple and pineapple flavors
support and balance the toasted creaminess."
-Laurie Hook, Winemaker.
