Does
Opus One go with Spanish food? |
|
 |
|
Opus One
is a Bordeaux style wine produced in the Napa Valley
through a partnership between Robert Mondavi and Baron
Philippe de Rothschild. The name Opus One came about
because the partners wanted a name of Latin origin,
allowing for easy recognition in both French and
English. Baron Philippe chose "Opus," traditionally a
musical term meaning "work," and two days later he added
the word "One." In 1984 both the 1979 and 1980 vintages
were simultaneously unveiled as Opus One's first
release.
The wine
itself has an exquisite texture and overwhelming flavor.
Our guests are often surprised to see it our our wine
list. Have you ever had a bottle of Opus One with
Spanish cuisine? In fact, this blend of Cabernet
Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot is perfectly suited
to many of the dishes on our menu.
Entrees
that completely compliment the richness of Opus
One include the 20 oz. Strip Loin Steak topped with
fresh wild mushrooms in a delicious port wine sauce and
the broiled 16 oz. Filet Mignon. If you want to
experience some of the best in food and wine available,
order a bottle of Opus One and the Baby Rack of Lamb
Chops in a mustard sauce. The lamb will melt in
your mouth and the wine will caress your tongue in a way
you may never forget.

Treat a friend to a trip
to Spain, a Margarita and lunch. Well, you might not have the time to take your friend
all the way to Spain. But the next best thing awaits you
on Chagrin Boulevard in Pepper Pike, Ohio. |
|
 |
|
After listening to our
Spanish speaking staff over an afternoon meal, you just
might feel like you spent a week in Madrid. Our walls
are adorned with paintings by Pablo Picasso and our food
is prepared from traditional Spanish recipes. Quench
your thirst with a good old fashioned Margarita while
exciting your taste buds with Camarones Enchilados (Shrimp in a Fra-Diavolo
Sauce). Then again, we promise not to be disappointed if
you dare to order a cheeseburger and Budweiser. Bring a
friend who has never been to Marbella and you will have
a friend for life, especially if you pay the check. No
worries though, lunch at Marbella requires "poquito
dinero" (little money) with lunches starting at $7. |

Camarones En Salsa De Ajo
(Shrimp in a Garlic Sauce)
A dish that goes perfectly
with a refreshing glass of Chardonnay is our Garlic Shrimp. It
is served as an appetizer or entree. The garlic sauce is so
delicious, you may find yourself dipping your bread into the
dish to get every last drop. The chopped garlic in the sauce
really adds to the flavor of the shrimp. We pile on the shrimp
and then lavishly drizzle our homemade garlic sauce over the
top. It is very rare that our table attendants ever see a leftover
shrimp when they clear this dish. By the way, the Spanish word
for shrimp is "camarones", "salsa" means sauce and "ajo" means
garlic.

Choose
from over 100 Red Wines from around the world! We feature
a nice selection of wines by the glass at Marbella.
However, the variety of wines that we offer by the
bottle is extraordinary. From Opus One to Silver Oak,
from Moet & Chandon White Star to Dom Perignon, the
flavors and styles continue without end. Our Red Wine List
has a broad range of styles. Highlighted are Spanish wines, most of which are from Rioja
and Penedes regions. This page has an excellent review
of Rioja and the wines from this prestigious region of
Spain.

Our California wines include
Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir and Zinfandel.
Our guests are often delighted and surprised to see Caymus Cabernet, Silver Oak Cabernet and Opus One on our
list. Lush and
robust red wines from France, Italy, Argentina, Chile,
Australia and South Africa round out our award winning
wine list. Crowd favorites include Louis Jadot Burgundy
from France and and Rosemount Shiraz from Australia.

Chorizo Sausage
One of our most requested
appetizers is "Chorizo A La Plancha" or Broiled Spanish
Sausage. |
|
 |
|
After you order this dish,
you will be entertained when your server lights it
ablaze right at your table. Chorizo is sausage that
seems to have its origins in Catalonia, Spain. There are
seventeen officially recognized varieties of chorizo in
Catalonia. It is usually made from lean pork, garlic,
paprika, red bell peppers, and red chile pepper flakes.
Today, Chorizo refers to many different spicy Spanish
and Latin American sausages.
Hands down, the best wine
to drink with chorizo is a fino Sherry. Its crisp, clean fruitiness is
the perfect contrast. The bubbles of a Spanish cava
nicely cut through the saltiness of the sausage. A
Verdejo-based white from Rueda, an Albariño and a rosé
are also good choices. For reds, I'd stick with a young,
fruit-forward Tempranillo.
If you
want a little adventure included with your next meal at
Marbella, order our Chorizo appetizer. We also add
Chorizo to our signature dish, Paella Valenciana. |

Cabernet By The Glass
Woodbridge Cabernet
($5.00) is offered by the glass and goes great with
appetizers like our Chorizo Sausage appetizer. |
|
 |
|
A glass of Concho Y Toro
Merlot ($5.00) or the
Banrock Station Shiraz ($5.95) will also accompany "Chorizo A
La Plancha" nicely.
The Woodbridge Cabernet
Sauvignon features appealing layers of ripe
cherry, blackberry and spice. Aging in small French and
American oak barrels gives warm vanilla tones to the
rich Cabernet character and enhances the long, velvety
finish.
The approachable, fruit-focused style is especially
delicious with our steaks and chops. It is also decadent
to sip while enjoying our famous Tiramisu dessert.
